Just minutes from losing a hard-fought match in which New Zealand proved to be an opponent with big heart and gritty intensity, the USA gave the home fans plenty to cheer about in a wild and dramatic final few minutes.

US WNT Win CONCACAF Championship 4-0 over Canada

The US Women's National Team came on strong early in their Championship match with Canada, getting a brace of goals each by Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan, who started for the first time. Wambach did not play in the second half after tallying two goals.  Hope Solo had a stellar night, putting in a show-stopping performance by saving everything Canada could throw at her, so much so that Canada was reduced to playing defense in the second half.

The U.S. shut out all of its opponents, while scoring 38 goals during the 5-match 10-day tournament.

Both Canada and the U.S. advance to play in the 2012 London Olympics this summer.

Women's Premiere League

Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Announces
Addition of Elite Soccer League

Sacramento, CA (February 9, 2012) – In a move to support women's soccer in America, and as a prelude to planned growth of a professional league in 2013, the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) has announced the creation of a special WPSL Elite League for the 2012 season. The league will be based in the East Coast and Midwest and will include squads from Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) teams The Boston Breakers and The Western New York Flash. The move will allow professional female soccer players from the WPS teams to remain in top form as the WPS moves toward resuming play in 2013. Current WPSL teams, The Chicago Red Stars of the Midwest-North Division and FC Indiana of the Midwest-South Division, will participate in the WPSL Elite League. More WPSL teams from the East will be added over the next few days.
