Seattle Sounders Win Supporters' Shield
Topping the LA Galaxy 2-0
The Seattle Sounders came up with two goals in the final five minutes of their match with Los Angeles to stay atop the MLS standings and win the Supporters' Shield for the first time in their history. After a sometimes chippy contest that threatened to turn into a brawl in the 75th minute, it was Marco Pappa who finally scored on a run down the left wing where he received Obifemi Martins' pass to put the ball away into LA's net and give the Sounders a 1-0 lead in the 85th minute of play. A few minutes later, LA's keeper attempted to play the ball on the field outside the penalty area only to have it stripped from him by Pappa who casually popped it back into LA's goal. A nightmarish finish for the Galaxy and Landon Donovan.
